Blackberry Playbook

My Blackberry Playbook (16GB model) just arrived !

From the brief time I have played with it (UPS was late) I’ve managed to play a 20Mbps 1080 video clip I created earlier today to test on the Xoom, on it without any issues. Of course 20Mbps is overkill, but it does show off the capabilities of the Playbook (and the Xoom, since it worked fine on that too).

DVD Catalyst 4.0.2.7 already includes a Playbook profile, but if you want some great settings to get the best quality video on your Playbook, I would suggest to start with one of the Android > Xoom profiles instead:

If you don’t plan on using HDMI, or if you only convert DVDs and non-HD video files, just select the Xoom profile, and in “Modify” change the screen resolution to 1024×600. If you want full-screen movies on your Playbook, enable Power User, then in Global Settings > Borders, enable “remove from device”

If you do want to use HDMI, and have HD video files as a source (DVDs have a lower resolution, so this would be overkill) select Android > Xoom HQ1 or Android > Xoom HQ2 for your profile, and change the screen resolution in “Modify” (since DVD Catalyst has a custom resolution set for the Xoom) to 1280×720.

For 1080 content, just select the Android Xoom HQ1 1080 or Xoom HQ2 1080 profiles, and leave the settings as they are.

As mentioned, my Playbook just came in, so I haven’t had too much time to “play” with it yet, however, the settings above are confirmed to work :)

Expect more updates in the next few days.
