Well, I just picked up a Motorola XOOM. It looks and feels amazing, and so far I’m quite impressed with it. I haven’t done too much with it, but expect some updates over the next couple of days about my experiences and my findings.
Of courseĀ the movies I already created for the NOOKcolor play without any issues, but over at XDA some people where running into issues trying to play high-resolution (1080/720) video files created using other software applications, so I figured I’d try and see what I can come up with.
I downloaded a 1080 trailer for the upcoming Ice Age 4 movie (mov format) and started DVD Catalyst 4. I selected the XOOM profile, and in “Modify, I changed a few settings:
and started a conversion. Because of the high resolution and the high quality setting, conversion itself was a bit slow, however, the resulting video looked pretty much identical to the original, which is what I wanted. I then copied the file to the XOOM, and played it through the build-in Gallery app. Playback was smooth and audio was in sync.
