When DVD Catalyst reports that it has found 99 tracks on a DVD, this is due to a protection system on the DVD. ARCCOS, as it is nicely called, is a non-standard protection system mostly used by Sony for high-profile movies. The protection system generates a lot of “fake” tracks on the DVD, and adjusts some stuff at the beginning of the movie/video that causes DVD conversion tools to trip.
When DVD Catalyst reports during scanning that it has found 99 tracks, its 99.9% certain the DVD features this protection system. When DVD Catalyst is accessing the individual tracks, it will often restart, causing the whole process to be slow and a bit cumbersome.
To eliminate most issues with these DVDs, please do the following in DVD Catalyst 3:
Start DVD Catalyst without the DVD in the drive.
Go into Global Settings > Advanced, and enable the “Ask for DVD track selection”.
Insert the DVD, and after the 99 tracks have been “found” by DVD Catalyst, it will bring up a selectionbox (thanks to the above setting). In there, select the first track.
DVD Catalyst will scan just the one track, and from there continue as usual.
