Language

The Language tab in DVD Catalyst’ Global Settings includes options for automatic audio and subtitle language handling.

*Enable closed captions (if available). DVD Catalyst is one of the very few applications that support Closed Captions. Closed Captions are special subtitles, designed for the hearing-impaired, and contain additional references to the video dialog that are not shown in standard subtitles, such as descriptions of sounds. Besides this, for DVDs, Closed Captions are easier to read as well. Because Closed Captions are encoded in the video itself, they can not automatically be detected by DVD Catalyst, so by enabling this, they will always be added when available, but if the video does not contain them, they will not be available. This setting works for DVDs as well as Video (Tivo) files

*Default Audio selection. Especially handy for automatic conversions, but also useful for normal conversions. This allows you to select 2 preferred languages for audio content. When you have a DVD that includes these languages as an available choice, they will automatically be set for the conversion.

*Default subtitle selection. Similar to the Audio selection, but then for subtitles. If a selected sub title is available on the DVD, it will automatically be selected.

-Only use subtitles if primary audio is not available. If the DVD does not contain your first selected audio language, it will use the second one, and enable subtitles automatically. Example: You selected Spanish as a primary, and English as a secondary audio language, and there is no Spanish audio on the DVD. It will use the English audio track, and enable the subtitles.

-Always use subtitles when available. Useful if you often watch your videos without headphones in a public area. Subtitles will always automatically be enabled.

-Do not enable subtitles automatically. (default) DVD Catalyst does not enable subtitles by default.

The Language and Subtitle selections can manually be adjusted by selecting the desired track in DVD Catalyst conversion list. Just click on the track, and below a couple of options appear to do this.
